A 19-year-old woman was struck by a gold SUV near Interstate 94 local lanes at Garfield Boulevard early Sunday, according to the Illinois State Police.
The woman was an occupant in a vehicle that pulled over to the left shoulder after experiencing mechanical issues, police said. When she exited the vehicle, she was struck by the SUV about 5 a.m. The driver of the vehicle that struck her left the scene.
The woman was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
A crash investigation is ongoing, according to police.
All lanes were open by about 8:30 a.m. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact state police at 847-294-4400.
