
Strong thunderstorms hit the Chicago area Monday afternoon, with the potential for more severe storms in the evening.

Several round of severe thunderstorm warnings were declared Monday afternoon, as storms dumped 1.76 inches of rain on Lombard and 1-inch hail in Franklin Park and four semitrucks were blown over on Interstate 55 near Arsenal Road, according to the National Weather Service.
A flash flood warning was in effect until 7:45 p.m. for eastern DuPage and northeastern Cook counties, as another severe thunderstorm warning was in effect until 6:30 p.m. for north-central Cook County, as a storm with 60 mph wind gusts and heavy rains headed east from Des Plaines.
“Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways,” the weather service said in one warning bulletin.
Storms were expected to end around 8 or 9 p.m., but light showers may continue into the evening.
