As part of our celebration of Chicago’s high school class of 2020, we reached out to high schools throughout the city asking seniors to submit songs that have been on their playlists lately, reminded them of their senior year or fit the mood of how they were feeling in these times of pandemics and uncertainty.

“We Are Young” by Fun.
“Because (of) everything that has happened … Just the stress of being a senior. Now finishing the year this way, it’s been hard. I kinda feel like we never had that opportunity to end the senior year with a prom or graduation or anything,” wrote Linnane. “And now summer won’t even be the same. It sucks. Yeah, the virus is real, I get it, but it doesn’t mean I can’t have feelings (about missing events).”
Simon Adams, Lane Tech
“Gimme Shelter,” Rolling Stones
“This song is about a danger that is coming … It gives kind of apocalyptic vibes, which this pandemic is like.”
We received a several other submissions and put together a playlist with the songs. Enjoy!
