David Crosby, who donated sperm to allow Melissa Etheridge and her partner Julie Cypher to raise their son Beckett Cypher, sent a few tweets after Beckett’s death Wednesday at age 21.

The 78-year-old singer clarified his role in Beckett’s life while also saying that he doesn’t expect any sympathy from his former band members in Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

In a since deleted tweet, one person claimed that Crosby “played no other part” in Beckett’s life after his donation. Crosby responded “Not true.”

Another commenter suggested that one of Crosby’s old pals in CSNY might reach out, but Crosby found that unlikely.

“I doubt it but …you never know,” he wrote in response. The group have had a rocky relationship since their heyday.

Etheridge and Cypher welcomed Beckett in 1998, one year after his sister Bailey Jean was born. Crosby provided the sperm donation for both children.

Beckett died Wednesday from opioid addiction at age 21.

“Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction,” Etheridge wrote. “My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today. He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends. My heart is broken.”
