New Life Covenant Church in Elgin plans to distribute 4,000 face masks for free this Saturday.
The drive-in event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of New Life Covenant Elgin, 2250 W. Highland Ave., weather permitting, a church news release said. The giveaway will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
A maximum of four masks will be distributed per vehicle while supplies last.
“These masks alone will not prevent the spread of the (coronavirus), but they can help reduce transmission and help compliance with the governor’s order to wear a face covering when inside indoor public places,” New Life Pastor Abi Raices said in the release. “We encourage people to continue washing their hands frequently, practicing social distancing and following CDC guidelines.”
No ID or documentation will be needed to receive the masks, the release said. Recipients should drive into the church parking lot, remain in their vehicles, receive their masks and exit the lot.
Anyone wanting to donate masks for the giveaway should drop them off at the church from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Among those sponsoring the event are Kane County Circuit Clerk Thomas Hartwell, Elgin City Councilman Baldemar Lopez and Judson University. Contributors includes state Sen. Jim Oberweis, Kane County Board member Doug Scheflow, state Senate candidate Jeanette Ward, Kane County Board candidates Lucio Estrada, Shari and James Fortes and John Tyson.
