A Chicago man wanted for shooting at a group of pedestrians early last month in Beach Park was arrested Wednesday, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

No one was hit by the bullets that authorities say Demarcus Griffin, 20, fired March 1 at three people who were walking south in the 39100 block of Lewis Avenue in Beach Park, according to a news release.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said Demarcus Griffin, 20, of the 9200 block of South Kingston Avenue, Chicago, was in possession of this stolen firearm and 50-round drum magazine at the time of his arrest Wednesday.

Detectives with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation into the shooting, which they concluded was targeted, according to Sgt. Christopher Covelli, the department’s spokesman. They think one of the people shot at was targeted because he began a relationship with someone with whom Griffin previously had a relationship.

The $500,000 arrest warrant was issued March 2 based on the detectives’ investigation and witness identification, according to Covelli and the release.

Griffin was arrested Wednesday as a result of a joint investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office warrants team and the U.S. Marshals Service’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.

He was arrested at an apartment in the 9200 block of South Kingston Avenue, Chicago, where he was living, according to the release. He allegedly was in possession of a stolen firearm and a 50-round drum magazine, resulting in additional charges from the Chicago Police Department.

He is being held at Cook County jail on the new charges of possession of a stolen firearm, according to the release.
