Drury Lane in Oakbrook Center is hosting a drive-through collection of fabric and elastic donations to support the efforts of theatrical seamstresses sewing fabric masks for health care workers, first responders and others in need in the Chicago area.
Donations will be accepted from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Drury Lane Theatre & Events, 100 Drury Lane. The Drury Lane facade will be illuminated in blue throughout the evening as a tribute to healthcare workers.
Anyone interested in donating fabric and/or elastic can do so by driving up and remaining in their vehicle. Organizers said social distancing guidelines will be adhered to during the event.
Donated fabric and elastic will be used to create masks as part of the partnership between the University of Illinois-Chicago’s College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts and Chicago Shakespeare Theater. This partnership has yielded more than 14,000 face masks, according to information from Drury Lane.
Drury Lane has been asked by health officials to seek 100% cotton quilting-style fabric that is at least 12 inches wide by 12 inches tall. Ideal elastic is one-quarter inch flat braided elastic and at least 7 inches long.
