Passersby may notice Northbrook Public Library is boarded up, but all is well: the building exterior is just getting a new paint job, according to library staff.

The inside of the library is also undergoing maintenance, with new study rooms being added to the second floor, marketing and communications supervisor Linda Vering said.

While the library is temporarily closed because of Gov. Pritzker’s stay-at-home order, the maintenance had been planned before that and the work schedule has not been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, Vering said.

The exterior painting project is scheduled to be finished in three months, and the study rooms should be completed by the end of May.

Crews from Pepper Construction and Eagle Painting and Maintenance Company will maintain social distancing, perform work outside when possible and limit the number of workers on site at a time, according to Vering.
