A driver died when his car rolled over after exiting Interstate 294 at Ogden Avenue and hitting a guard rail and a tree Monday afternoon in Western Springs, according to police.

Western Springs police were notified of a crash just north of the intersection of Ogden and Grand Avenue at 3:08 p.m. April 20. Police identified the driver as David S. Martin, 66, of Beach Park, Ill.

The accident appeared to occur as the car, a 2007 Cadillac GTS, was exiting northbound I-294, police officials reported in a statement.

A witness said the car struck a guard rail and continued eastbound on Ogden, where it crossed all the lanes of traffic and struck a tree 25 feet north of Ogden between Grand and Lawn Avenue in the Cook County Forest Preserve.

Police officers and paramedics from the Western Springs Fire Department determined the driver, who was alone in the car, had no signs of life. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities reported.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Martin died from blunt force trauma resulting from the impact with the tree, Western Springs authorities reported.

The police are investigating the accident. The Western Springs Police Department asks anyone with information to call the police station at 708-246-8540.
