Craft brewers team up to survive pandemic

Five craft brewers in the south suburbs have teamed up to launch Support Each Other – an initiative to raise money and awareness in the Tinley Park and Mokena communities during the coronavirus pandemic. The Open Bottle, Hailstorm Brewing, and Soundgrowler Brewing, all of Tinley Park, have partnered with Crafted 1979 and Brothership Brewing, both of Mokena, to collaborate on a t-shirt initiative designed to support all of the businesses during these unprecedented times.
“We’re a local beer community,” Julia Bisch of The Open Bottle said. “We’re in this together and we all want to see each other weather this storm.”
This local beer scene has not been immune to the repercussions of the pandemic and stay at home order passed back in March.
“All of our businesses are fortunate to continue operating to some extent, but we’ve all had to make some difficult decisions recently without on-premise sales,” Bisch said. “We’re hoping that the sales from these T-shirts will not only generate a small cushion to help us all continue our operations but to also bring our community together.” The profits from the shirt sales will be evenly divided between the five companies and all the sales data will be publicly accessible. The T-shirts are $20 and available for pre-order at www.theopenbottle.com/support until April 30.
Emissions testing stations closed
Illinois EPA Director John J. Kim announced the temporary closure of all vehicle emissions testing stations in Illinois as part of the effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
In the interest of safeguarding the health of Illinoisans, including motorists that bring their vehicles in for emissions testing and the workers that perform these tests, the Illinois EPA will temporarily suspend vehicle emissions testing, including at all centralized and decentralized inspection station locations, a release from the IEPA stated.
This suspension is effective through April 30 and may be extended depending on circumstances.
The Illinois Air Team Call Center will remain open and available to address motorist emissions testing inquiries. Motorists with questions may call 844-258-9071 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or visit the Illinois Air Team website at http://illinoisairteam.net.
