Illinois State Police were investigating a shooting that happened Sunday night on Interstate 94, killing a 47-year-old man while he was traveling in the northbound lanes near 103rd Street, police said.
When troopers responded to the scene a little after 8:25 p.m. Sunday, they discovered the man alone in the vehicle, dead.
Preliminary reports indicate shots were fired from an unknown vehicle traveling north on I-94, police said.
The northbound lanes on the Bishop Ford Freeway at 103rd Street were closed at 8:30 p.m. Sunday and reopened early Monday.
The shooting is under investigation and anyone with knowledge of the shooting was asked to contact state police at 847-294-4400.
Information on the man’s identity had not yet been released Monday morning by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
