Six employees of the Will County Sheriff’s Office have tested positive for Covid-19, according to a statement from Sheriff Mike Kelley.

Those testing positive are two deputies from the gang suppression unit who worked together on a narcotics seizure arrest, one deputy and one correctional officer assigned to the Will County Courthouse, one court security officer and one correctional officer assigned to the Will County jail.

It is unclear where the jail officer caught the virus but there have been no other cases at the jail, Kelley said in the release.

Those who have tested positive will not be allowed to return to their jobs until after they have two negative tests and are free of symptoms for at least 72 hours per state guidelines.

A deputy from the courthouse has already returned to work after having two negative test results, Kelley said in the release.

The two deputies with the gang suppression unit are scheduled to return to work next week after having negative tests.

The other three employees are recovering at home, Kelley said.

“It remains my top priority to monitor the daily changes as we continue to safeguard Will County communities and all of our exceptional staff who are on the front lines of this pandemic,” he said.
