Vernon Hills police said they are working to identify a suspect who was involved in multiple gunshots being fired near an apartment building Saturday night.

Police responded to the 0-100 block of Parkside Court around 11:22 p.m. and found a pistol and several spent shell casings outside an apartment.

Public Information Officer Jeff Hemesath said several individuals were interviewed, but he added police are waiting for more information before definitively naming a suspect.

No one, yet, has been arrested in the case, police said. No one was injured in the incident.

“They’re waiting for witnesses,” Hemesath said. “Hopefully, someone heard or saw something more that could pinpoint to who exactly it was.”

Hemesath said investigators have determined that whoever fired the shots was not intending to harm anyone. The incident appears to be isolated and doesn’t pose a risk to the broader the community, police said.

Anyone with information related to the incident can contact Investigations Cmdr. Todd Williams at 847-247-4884, police said.
