Lynwood police are asking the public for any information anyone might have about the Thursday evening shooting of a 19-year-old man.

Around 9:35 p.m., Lynwood police were dispatched to the 200 block of Terrace Avenue, where they found the 19-year-old in the basement of a home with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The 19-year-old was leaving the home and walking to his car when two men approached him and demanded his property, according to a news release.

When the 19-year-old denied having anything, he was promptly shot by one of the men, who then fled on foot, police said.

Investigators interviewed several people at the scene, but all were inside the home when the shooting occurred and did not see the incident, according to police.

The 19-year-old was initially transported to St. Margaret Hospital in Dyer, Indiana, but was later airlifted to the University of Chicago Medical Center for additional treatment.

Lynwood police did not provide more information Friday morning on the condition of the 19-year-old, but University of Chicago Medical is a high-level trauma center, often indicating that a patient transferred there from another hospital requires a higher level of care.
