Naperville businesses are coming up with innovations on how to serve customers following Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s decision to close all restaurants and bars effective Monday.
The new measures are intended to enforce social distancing so the spread of the coronavirus is slowed and the health system not overwhelmed by an onslaught of COVID-19 cases.
Some Naperville businesses are offering unique styles of delivery, and others are working to provide online ordering and curbside pickup.
Dine Naperville is compiling a list of restaurants offering curbside pick-up, delivery and drive-thru options. The list will updated as the organization receives information.
“Our team at Dine Naperville cares deeply about ensuring the health of our community members while also supporting our local restaurants,” a news release said. “We appreciate the loyal support shown to our restaurants during this difficult time. Please stay safe and stay tuned for any additional updates to our Naperville restaurant community.”
The Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce has also compiled a list of member restaurants offering alternatives to dining in.

Solemn Oath at 1661 Quincy Ave. is providing an online system to pre-order packaged beer and other items to go, with same-day and next-day pickup options, Solemn Oath President John Barley said.
The brewery needs about 60 minutes to process an order, he said.
Customers can either walk up to Solemn Oath to obtain their purchase or stay in their vehicles and have it brought to them. Employees will wear sanitary gloves when checking IDs and processing payments. They will also sanitize in between serving each customer.
“We ask our community to prioritize their support of local businesses, to support each other, to be patient and to be kind to service providers,” Barley said. “At Solemn Oath we are committed to providing the community with a safe place to buy local beer. We love you all and will continue to serve you as long as we can.”

Sparrow Coffee
Sparrow Coffee is offering grab-and-go service, which is being reinforced by removing all chairs from its 120 Water St. location so people aren’t able to linger.
The business is open to pick up items from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, according to a post on Sparrow’s Facebook page.
Customers can order any menu item they normally would but can’t stay to consume it. Retail coffee shelves have been restocked, according to the post.
DeEtta’s Bakery
DeEtta’s Bakery is not affected by the governor’s edict because it has no dine-in options at its 428 W. Fifth Ave. locations.
However, the best thing about a bakery, owner Morgan Tyschper said, is it can bake bread whenever it wants whereas most grocery stores are dependent on deliveries. “Any way we’re able to help the community, we want to,” he said.
The bakery is vigilant about health precautions, and employees are being extra careful given the current conditions, Tyschper said.
Bread varieties include white, wheat, rye and Irish soda bread, but varieties and quantities are dictated by demand, he said. Customers can place a pre-order to ensure the bread they want will be available by calling 630-548-4078.
Balboa’s Cheesesteaks
Balboa’s Cheesesteaks is offering “no touch” delivery, according to a post on their Facebook page. Those interested can notify the business by including the request in the special instructions section for any item.
Patrons also should specify where they would like the order placed upon delivery. Balboa’s is also advising that pre-payment and pre-tipping make the delivery more efficient.
Customers will be notified after their order has arrived so they have no contact with the delivery person.
