The Chicago Park District announced Saturday it is suspending all scheduled programing from Sunday “until further notice” to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Though programming is suspended, the parks will remain open, as will washrooms and fieldhouses.
After Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker announced statewide school closings Friday, city officials said students who couldn’t stay home would be able to use Park District facilities.
Eighteen parks will have “age-appropriate” activities to help families who need a place for their children while schools are closed.
“It is important to note, the district must limit capacity at each location to 250 in order to combat the community spread of (coronavirus),” according to the statement.
A decision hasn’t yet been made on spring programming set to begin March 30. The district said if programs were suspended, paid fees would be “credited for future use.”
