A 20-year-old man died Monday after being struck by a vehicle on a Calumet City street, police said.

Officers found the victim lying in the middle of Wentworth Avenue at Detroit Street at 3:12 p.m., after responding to a reported pedestrian strike in the area, police said in a statement.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Tarone Conway, of Calumet City, and ruled his death an accident caused by multiple injuries that resulted in falling from and being run over by a moving vehicle.

Police Chief Christopher Fletcher said the driver who hit Conway remained at the scene and that no one had been criminally charged at this point.

The Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services are assisting Calumet City police with the crash investigation.
