A fire at an apartment complex in Gages Lake injured two people and displaced five residents early Monday morning, authorities say.

At 1:22 a.m., the Grayslake Fire Protection District responded to a report in the 33600 block of Evergreen Drive in Gages Lake, where a fire had broken out in the garage area of the two-story complex.

Grayslake Battalion Chief James Weildman said crews quickly extinguished the flames, but two apartments were deemed uninhabitable by the damage.

One injured person was sent to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville, while another was treated and released on scene, authorities say.

Agencies are still investigating the cause of the fire and the estimated damage caused. Crews from fire departments in Gurnee, Fox Lake and Countryside assisted at the scene, while the Fox Lake and Countryside fire departments provided station coverage.
