A Waukegan man wanted on a warrant for sex abuse charges was taken into custody Monday in Louisiana, where authorities say he was hiding in a chicken coop.
The operation to locate and apprehend Mario J. Colindres-Galeano, 26, of the 2100 block of Williamsburg Drive in Waukegan, was jointly headed by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force teams from the Great Lakes region and New Orleans.
Colindres-Galeano faced two warrants stemming from December of last year, one for aggravated criminal sex abuse and one for failing to appear in court on the charges, according to a statement issued Monday by the sheriff’s office. Authorities say the bond on the warrants totaled $1.5 million.

After learning Colindres-Galeano had fled the state to avoid arrest, the statement added, investigators located the man at a residence in Covington, Louisiana.

According to the statement, as members of the New Orleans task force approached the home on Monday, they saw Colindres-Galeano “trying to flee the residence from the rear access hatch of a chicken (coop), which was attached to the home.” He was taken into custody without incident, the statement added.
Colindres-Galeano was being held Monday at the St. Tammany Parish Jail, where he awaited extradition to Illinois.
