Spike Lee paid homage to late NBA icon and fellow Oscar winner Kobe Bryant on Sunday by wearing a custom tuxedo to the Academy Awards.

Lee arrived at the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles wearing a purple and gold suit featuring Bryant’s No. 24 on the front and back.

Bryant was one of nine people killed in a Jan. 26 helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif. Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, also died in the tragic accident.

Lee directed a 2009 documentary about Bryant titled “Kobe: Doin’ Work.”

“We gotta love each other,” Lee told actor Billy Porter on Sunday of his tuxedo honoring Bryant. “Spreading love is the Brooklyn way.”

The 62-year-old Lee shared a photo of his attire at Sunday’s ceremony on Instagram, while The Academy also posted a picture with the caption “Respect.”

Bryant won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 2018 for “Dear Basketball,” which served as a visual accompaniment to the letter he wrote to announce his retirement from the NBA after 20 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.
