According to the latest win-total odds, no team is projected by BetOnline and SportsBetting.ag to be worse than the Dolphins’ over-under line of 5 1/2 victories. The Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins are also being given a projected win total of 5 1/2.
The New England Patriots have the highest win-total projection (10 1/2) in the AFC East. The Bills (8 1/2) are next, followed by the New York Jets (6 1/2) and Dolphins.
The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are being given the highest win total of 11 1/2, followed by the Baltimore Ravens at 11. The San Francisco 49ers, who lost to the Chiefs in last week’s Super Bowl, are listed at 10 1/2.
The Dolphins, who are expected to part ways with several veterans this offseason after stockpiling draft picks, are also being given the second-worst odds at 100-1 to win next year’s Super Bowl in Tampa. The Redskins and Bengals have the worst odds at 200-1.
The Dolphins, who are undergoing an extensive rebuild under general manager Chris Grier and coach Brian Flores, went 5-11 in 2019 to miss the playoffs for the 16th time in 18 years. They haven’t won a postseason game in 20 years, dating back to a 23-17 overtime win over the Colts on Dec. 30, 2000.
Dolphins owner Steve Ross acknowledged last week that it could take several seasons to build a winner.
“We’re a team that’s building,” Ross said. “We’re at a stage with the Dolphins where we’re trying to build for the future and after. It’s a rebuilding process. We’re building a team, and we’re looking to build a team for the future that’s really going to be there year after year. That’s what we’re looking to do.”
The Dolphins, who overhauled their coaching staff during the offseason, also have a tough schedule next season — having to face both Super Bowl teams. In addition to their usual two games against the Patriots, they will face the Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks at home.
The Dolphins’ road schedule includes games against the 49ers, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.
The Dolphins, who have five first-round picks over the next two drafts, have three first-round selections in April’s draft — Nos. 5, 18 and 26. They have accumulated a total of 14 picks in this year’s draft.
