The owner of the D.C. Cobb’s restaurant opening at 311 Barrington in East Dundee says he will enlarge his planned restaurant by taking over the neighboring space formerly occupied by Migrate Restaurant.
Dan Hart said the move means he will be able to use Migrate’s kitchen rather than having to build a new one and gives him more square footage to spread out.
“We were really struggling with fitting everything we needed into the space as it was,” Hart said.
It will be Hart’s third D.C. Cobbs restaurant. The others are in McHenry and Woodstock.
All three will have the same menu, with appetizers, specialty wraps, specialty burgers and salads as well as a full bar with a rotating selection of beers on tap. The second-floor rooftop patio space will give patrons a view of East Dundee’s downtown district.
Hart said he does not yet have an opening date. He’s in the process of obtaining permits and licenses, he said.
“Construction will be faster now that we’re not having to build a kitchen,” he said.
Hart is also owner Hart’s Saloon in Hebron and Smith’s Central Garage in downtown McHenry and a part-owner and investor in Hub Market butcher shop in downtown McHenry, among other business ventures.
Less than a year after opening, Migrate owners Eddie and Shana Pluviose announced in December they would be closing the full-service, sit-down establishment. They said the location had been a challenge because downtown East Dundee is not on a major thoroughfare.
Hart taking over the space “makes sense,” Village President Lael Miller said.
“It’s going to be a great location for them,” he said. “We’re really excited about D.C. Cobb’s.”
The community is also excited, he said.
“D.C. Cobb’s is well known. I’ve talked to a lot of people and they’re waiting in anticipation for them to come in,” Miller said.
