Of all the factors that will decide whether the San Francisco 49ers or Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl, the weather doesn’t appear to be one of them.

Clear skies are forecast for Sunday evening when South Florida hosts the NFL’s showcase event for a record 11th time.

The National Weather Service’s Miami office is calling for a mostly sunny Sunday with a high near 68 degrees, and a nighttime low dipping to around 52. A light north wind is projected.

Sunset is at 6:05 p.m., about a half-hour before kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium.

Fans may remember the rain-soaked 2007 Super Bowl down here between the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears. Or, more likely, you remember Prince playing “Purple Rain” during a rainstorm at halftime.

Dolphins owner Steve Ross has since added a canopy to Hard Rock Stadium that would shield many of the fans from precipitation, but rain would still affect the playing field.

For now, that doesn’t seem to be a worry for Sunday, though visitors experienced some wetter weather Saturday.
