An elderly Arlington Heights woman died following a two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon at an Arlington Heights intersection, according to an Arlington Heights police news release.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the woman as Lilly Thompson, 90, of the first block of East Hintz Road, Arlington Heights. An autopsy performed Saturday indicated she died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries from the collision.
The Arlington Heights police and fire departments arrived to the scene of the accident at Hintz Road and Arlington Heights Road just before 4 p.m. Friday, the release states.
According to the release, a preliminary police investigation and an eye witness revealed that Thompson, who was driving a red SUV, was attempting to turn left onto Hintz Road ? the street where her home is located ? on a yellow light when a compact car continued through the intersection in the opposite direction and collided with her.

Police said Thompson was unresponsive, with severe injuries, when first responders arrived. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Both vehicles sustained “significant damage,” but the driver of the car was not transported to the hospital and was instead evaluated by on-scene Buffalo Grove Fire Department paramedics, police said in the release.
There were no other passengers in either car. Also, it was not immediately known if citations were issued in this incident.
The Major Case Reconstruction Team, a multi-jurisdictional organization that aids in cases of homicide, kidnapping and other fatalities, assisted with on-scene investigation, police said.
The intersection was partially closed during the investigation Friday and reopened by 9:30 p.m. that night, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
