John Bjork has lived in Glencoe for almost two years. A practicing antitrust attorney in Chicago, Bjork is married to his wife, Kimberly, and they have two daughters. When he has free time away from work and parental responsibilities he likes to play basketball and tennis.
Q: How did you settle into Glencoe?
A: We had lived in the city for about 10 years. When we were expecting our second child, we started to explore some of the suburbs. It was a typical story as we ran out of room in our condo in the city and through word of mouth and research into the school systems and parks, we checked out Glencoe several times and fell in love with the community and ended up settling down here.
Q: What do you find interesting about the world of antitrust law?
A: What I like the most is probably the economics of it. Antitrust law is very economic heavy in terms of determining what a competitive market would look like. Our goal is to get competitive markets across all various different types of products and services that exist.
Q: How did you get interested in becoming a lawyer in the first place?
A: It started in high school. I always had an interest in the law and I always did well in English classes, and the class that involved debate and argument. So I took a liking to law at a high level and then as I got into the later years of undergrad, I thought law school was a good career choice and ended up going to Boston College for law school and then practicing in Chicago and I have been doing that ever since 2009.

Q: What are your goals for 2020?
A: I’m training for a half marathon in the spring. Obviously spending time with my kids as there is a Daddy-Daughter dance that I plan to go to with my daughters and of course, there is Glencoe Beach in the summer. That is a place we frequent quite regularly and I am looking forward to do that again this year.
