An Oak Lawn police officer is credited with saving the life of a disoriented 37-year-old man who had forced his way out of his home through a closed window, according to a recent report.

Officer Matthew Shilney spotted the “naked and bleeding” resident pounding on a neighbor’s door after responding to a Dec. 26 report of a disturbance at a manufactured home community in the 9000 block of Cicero Avenue, police said.

Shilney calmed the man and applied tourniquets to his legs to stop “life-threatening bleeding,” police said in the report, which credited the officer with “taking life-saving measures.” Shilney has been with the department since July 2015.

Prior to being taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center for treatment, the man told police he “just wanted to join the party” at his neighbor’s home, reports said. Police said there was no party at the home, which is occupied by a pregnant woman, her husband and their young children.

The man is scheduled to appear in Cook County court at the Bridgeview courthouse Feb. 14 on charges of public indecency, disorderly conduct and keeping a disorderly house, police said.
