Buffalo Grove fire officials are investigating a Sunday night fire at Dengeos, a Greek-American restaurant in the village.
No injuries were reported, according to a fire department news release.
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department received a call at 9:13 p.m. Sunday reporting smoke inside Dengeos Restaurant at 195 West Dundee Road, the release states.
According to the release police officers arrived on scene first and saw the restaurant full of smoke. The owner and several employees were inside but evacuated. The restaurant had closed at 9 p.m., and no customers were inside.
When fire officials arrived, they discovered that the fire had begun outside the building and extended inside.
Employees who were there at the time told officials that about 30 minutes before calling 911 they had put out a fire in an area outside where smoking is allowed, the release stated.
This is where officials believe the secondary fire began, but official cause of the fire is under investigation, according to the release.
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department, with help from Arlington Heights and other fire crews, extinguished the fire and opened part of the roof to air out smoke and heat. The fire was declared under control at 9:56 p.m., the release stated.
The restaurant’s bathrooms were heavily damaged by the fire, and smoke affected the rest of the restaurant, fire officials said in the release.
Officials said the restaurant would remain closed until it received an inspection from the village.
Dengeos Restaurant staff announced on its Facebook page Monday morning that it had received clearance and is open and running again.
