About 6:50 p.m., the woman was hit by a train traveling from the CTA’s Howard station to Skokie, said Cmdr. Ryan Glew, of the Evanston Police Department. The woman, who had not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, Glew said.
The incident happened just north of the Howard station on the northbound tracks near McCormick Boulevard and Howard Street, according to the CTA. Just before 8:30 p.m., the train involved remained on the tracks and power had been shut off, officials said. There were still passengers on the train involved in the incident, Glew said.
The CTA temporarily suspended service on the Yellow Line. The agency was providing a shuttle bus for passengers from the Howard to Dempster-Skokie stations.
