A man was fatally shot Wednesday night inside a home in south suburban Harvey, police said.

The victim, identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as 33-year-old Antwan Hawthorne, was found “in a lifeless state” on the floor of a home in the 14600 block of Loomis Avenue about 8:40 p.m., Harvey police Chief Eddie Winters said.

Winters said Hawthorne, who was shot multiple times, was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where he was pronounced dead.

Police found no sign of forced entry into the home and said he appears to have been targeted in what is being treated as an isolated incident, Winters said.

The chief said Hawthorne’s two young children, ages 4 and 5, were inside the home when their father was shot, but he did not know if they had witnessed his slaying.

He said it was the first time this year police had been called to that address, and that while there were service calls in prior years, none were of a violent nature.

Winters said Thursday police were continuing to investigate the shooting and had not yet established a motive nor developed a description of any suspects.
