An indoor security camera stolen during a burglary Tuesday captured footage of the man who took it, leading to charges against an unincorporated Grayslake man who lives near the burglarized home, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Carlos H. Zelaya, 32, who lives in the same 18100 block of West Lindenwood Drive as the burglarized home, was arrested Wednesday by the sheriff’s office, according to a news release. He has been charged with residential burglary, a class 1 felony.

An indoor security camera captured footage of the burglary, according to the release. The camera along with cash was taken from the home.

Despite the camera’s theft, video from the camera showing the burglary had already uploaded to the internet and saved, according to the release.

Zelaya remained Wednesday in the Lake County jail pending an initial court hearing.
