Continuous rain Saturday kept some ticket holders home, but it didn’t stop many others from heading out to Fullersburg Woods for the second of the two-night Halloween Night Walks.
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County sold 1,300 advance tickets for the event, 650 each for Friday and Saturday, and the rain on Saturday simply meant a bit of a detour along the way as participants got a nighttime look at Fullersburg Woods.

“We just had to shorten it a bit and change the locations of some of our stations because the trails were flooded,” said Keriann Dubina, a naturalist for the forest preserve district.
Dubina said 13 groups of up to 50 people left every 15 minutes for their walk in the woods, which included stops at various stations.

“Each stop was kind of a little play,” she said. “There was educational information at every station. It was an opportunity to learn about nature, have fun and experience the woods at night, which people usually don’t get to do.”

Dubina said Halloween Night Walks have been offered at the woods for more than 20 years. Monsters, with Notre Dead University, was the theme for this year’s event.
Halloween continues for many with trick-or-treating on Halloween, Oct. 31. Oak Brook has set hours from 3-7 p.m., Elmhurst from 3:30-7:30 p.m., and Oakbrook Terrace from 2-6 p.m.
