The Affordable Care Act 2020 open enrollment begins Nov. 1, and Moraine Township will again offer help to residents in need of assistance through the process.
Township Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi said trained and certified counselors are available to work one-on-one with residents to help them understand their options, balance their medical needs and budgets and compare coverage and costs. Counselors can also help ensure that enrollees receive the premium subsidies and cost-sharing reductions they may be income-qualified to receive.
The open enrollment period runs through Dec. 15.
“Again this year, open enrollment is an abbreviated period and we are concerned that many participants in the Health Insurance Marketplace may not be aware of this shortened period and will miss out of health insurance for all of 2020 if they are not enrolled by Dec. 15,” certified application counselor volunteer Barbara Altman said.
Residents who are currently enrolled in health insurance plans through the Marketplace have two options if they wish to continue receiving insurance under the Affordable Care Act. They may re-enroll in their existing plan for another year or select a different plan for 2020, Bassi said.
Bassi said enrollees may find it beneficial to learn about changes that might be taking place in their existing plan, or review details and compare costs of alternative plans.
