District 112 and the North Shore Education Association (NSEA) announced Friday they’d reached a tentative settlement following their Oct. 3 session with a federal mediator. It was the first scheduled bargaining session since the 391-member NSEA on Sept. 19 authorized negotiators to call a strike if they felt talks had reached a standstill.
The settlement terms, which were not disclosed, will be shared with the 391-member NSEA prior to a ratification vote. The agreement will then go to the school board for approval.
Points of contention heading into the Oct. 3 session involved the allocation of teachers’ planning time, pay raises and tuition reimbursement for coursework.
The prior five-year contract between the teachers’ union and the school board expired Aug. 14, but the terms have remained in effect while negotiations were ongoing.
