More than 250 people celebrated fall with Oktoberfest at the Tuthill Family Pet Rescue & Resource Center in Hinsdale, with bratwurst, pierogis, a cigar bar and Die Musikmeisters band.
The Hinsdale Humane Society hosted the party at its rescue shelter, at 21 Salt Creek Lane, as a fundraiser for its animals and programs.
Despite rain earlier in the day, the event went well with most activities held in a tent set up next to the rescue center, said Robin Carroll, director of marketing.
The food included a bratwurst bar, with different kinds of bratwurst and toppings, such as sauerkraut and a variety of mustards.
Dancers from the Center for Dance in Westmont entertained the crowd with two shows.

An older generation came early in the evening and the younger crowd showed up later, Carroll said. The band played until 10 p.m.

Some guests wearing lederhosen, got in the spirit and danced to the Musikmeisters’ polkas, waltzes and folk music, Carroll said.
Guests could buy a six-pack of beer sight unseen because each of about 50 different kinds of beer was wrapped in brown paper. All were sold, Carroll said.

The humane society’s pet ambassadors, such as Klaus, were there to welcome guests, too. Klaus is a Leonberger, a dog breed that comes from the city of Leonberg in Germany.
