Authorities were warning motorists Sunday not try to drive on flooded roads, especially where the road is marked closed.
Several roads in the south suburbs were closed over the weekend due to flooding, including a portion of South Cedar Road near West Laraway Road in New Lenox.
That road was marked closed, but a small car was found abandoned alongside it as it was half-submerged underwater.
Both fire district and police officials have confirmed they have received no distress calls in regard to the vehicle.
“Several people have disregarded the barriers on closed streets and attempted to drive through,” New Lenox Deputy Police Chief Louis Alessandrini said Sunday. “Nobody has had to be rescued. That car was found unoccupied and remains in a ditch on the side of the road.”
