The annual North Chicago Public Safety Fair is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North Chicago Fire Department.

Little Obie, a 6-foot high scale model of a Canadian National (CN) locomotive, will be on-site to promote rail safety at the event.

In addition to Obie, the event will feature live demonstrations by police K-9 and motorcycle units, as well as police and fire equipment displays, CPR demonstration, free child ID kits, free food, an obstacle course and more.

There will also be several public safety information booths.

Keynote speakers at the event include U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider and Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg. Mayor Leon Rockingham Jr. and Lake County State’s Attorney Michael Nerheim are also expected at the fair.

An awards ceremony is scheduled to follow the presentation, with North Chicago police officer Steven Roberts and firefighter Wilton Hill will each receiving the “Making a Difference Community Service Award” for their contributions to the city of North Chicago.

“Public Safety requires a collaboration between law enforcement, first responders and the community,” said Ald. Bonny Mayfield, chair of the City Council’s Public Safety Committee. “You may never need them, but if you do, they’ll be there. The Public Safety Fair gives our residents an opportunity to meet those that may be called upon in an emergency and to educate the public on services that are available to them.”

The North Chicago Fire Department is located at 1850 Lewis Ave.
