A woman was pronounced dead at the scene after she stepped in front of a Red Line “L” train near the Jarvis Avenue stop in the Rogers Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.
The situation had caused a service disruption and temporary suspension of service between the Howard and Belmont stations.
It happened about 5:45 p.m. in the 1500 block of West Jarvis Avenue, according to Officer Steve Rusanov, a spokesman for the Chicago police. The woman was pronounced dead after a train struck her during an apparent suicide, Rusanov said.
The Jarvis stop is at 1523 W. Jarvis Ave.
As of 6:20 p.m., police officers were still on the scene dealing with the emergency, according to Rusanov.
Most of Thursday evening, service along the Red and Purple lines was temporarily suspended between the Howard and Belmont stations after a “medical emergency” on the tracks, a CTA spokeswoman said.
Shortly before 10 p.m., Red Line trains resumed full service, according to CTA.
Yellow Line service resumed with residual delays around 9:30 p.m. after service was suspended for more than three hours. And trains along the Brown Line were experiencing delays due to congestion, according to CTA.
