The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded Thursday evening to a neighborhood between Gurnee and Gages Lake for a shooting that “does not appear to be a random incident,” according to a statement released by a sheriff’s spokesman.
The statement added that deputies were dispatched around 5 p.m. for a report of shots fired in the 17700 block of West Horseshoe Lane, which is southeast of Washington Street and Almond Road.
“Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found the victim, a 17-year-old male who lived at the address of occurrence, sustained non-life-threatening injuries from a physical altercation with two unknown subjects,” the statement added. “Nobody was shot during the incident.”
According to the statement, investigators learned that the teen was speaking with two men in their late teens or early 20s just outside or inside the residence who arrived on the scene in a silver Honda Accord.
“A fight between the three (ensued), and someone produced a firearm,” the statement added. “The firearm was discharged, but nobody was struck. The two males who arrived in the Honda fled from the scene.”
The incident remained under investigation late Thursday, according to the statement.
