Tim Jones, shot in the head while investigating a March 19, 2016, break-in and stolen vehicle, was inducted into the South Suburban Chiefs of Police on July 26.
Jones, a second-generation cop who currently relies on a wheelchair for mobility, spent his first year of recovery in rehab.
It is the latest honor for Jones, whose father is Country Club Hills police Chief William Jones.
In 2018, Park Forest officials named part of one of the village’s major streets after him. “Honorary Officer Tim Jones Way” on Lakewood Boulevard stretches between the police station and the Park Forest-Olympia Fields Library.
Anyone interested in contributing to a fund to defray the costs of Jones’ rehabilitation can pay via his Go Fund Me site at https://www.gofundme.com/timstrong.
The South Suburban Chiefs of Police organization also includes members of the Chicago Police Department, Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police and several federal agencies.
