A North Chicago man was charged with misdemeanor child endangerment Monday after allegedly leaving two children in a vehicle outside Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital for more than two hours, according to Lake Forest police.

Just before noon on Monday, Lake Forest police and fire units responded to a 911 call from the hospital’s security staff, who had located a Dodge pickup truck containing two boys who were honking the horn and appeared to be in “medical distress,” according to a Lake Forest police statement.

Police said the children are 8 and 9 years old.

Fire and police personnel were able to get the children out of the car, with paramedics evaluating them and subsequently transporting them to the hospital’s emergency room for further medical evaluation.

Police said officers at the scene spoke with the boys and their father, and confirmed that the father had driven them to Lake Forest Hospital, parked the vehicle and went inside, leaving the two boys in the vehicle alone and with the windows rolled up.

Officers were able to determine the juveniles had been in the truck for approximately two hours and 15 minutes prior to hospital security locating the vehicle due to the horn being sounded, according to the Lake Forest police statement.

As a result, Brandon E. Wilson, 32, of North Chicago, was charged with child endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor. He was released and assigned an Aug. 23 court date in Lake County Circuit Court.

The statement said the Department of Children and Family Services was contacted by hospital staff and responded to further investigate the incident. Both juveniles were still being treated by hospital staff when police cleared the scene, according to authorities.
