Highland Park police are investigating a recent attempted armed robbery at a CVS pharmacy in the city.
Two men entered the CVS store, 1539 Clavey Road, around 3 a.m. Sunday and one of them displayed what appeared to be a handgun, said Deputy Police Chief Jonathan Lowman.
“It all happened quite quickly,”Lowman said. “The employees immediately or almost immediately left through the back door and tripped the fire alarm.”
Lowman said the employees intentionally set off the alarm as they were exiting the store, notifying police and firefighters. Authorities then responded immediately.
“When the fire alarm went off, the offenders took off,” Lowman said.
Because the employees could not confirm whether the suspects had left the building, personnel from the regional Northern Illinois Police Alarm System were brought in to check the building, Lowman said.
Police do not believe anything was taken, but an investigation is ongoing.
Lowman said detectives are trying to identify the suspects and see if they are connected to other incidents.
