A body pulled Tuesday morning from the North Branch of the Chicago River has been identified as a missing Lawndale man who disappeared after going to a grocery store near where he was found dead, officials said.
Emergency crews responded around 8:45 a.m. to the 1500 block of West Webster Avenue for a call of a person in the water, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt.
Esteban Uriostigue, 22, was reported missing Friday night. He was last seen leaving a Jewel-Osco at 2550 N. Clybourn Ave., according to police.

The body was identified as that of Uriostigue, of the 2400 block of West Polk Street in the Lawndale neighborhood, according to Natalia Derevyanny, a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner’s offfice. The Jewel-Osco property is adjacent to the North Branch, about a half-mile northwest of where Uriostigue’s body was found.
Uriostigue was discovered unresponsive in the water, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
