Two workers on a scaffold on the upper floors of a West Rogers Park high-rise were rescued when the scaffold broke and they were left dangling from harnesses, officials said.

Crews were called to a high-rise building in the Winston Towers complex in the 7000 block of North Kedzie Avenue about 11:45 a.m., officials said.

The swing-stage scaffold malfunctioned or broke, ending up vertical rather than horizontal. The two men were left dangling by safety harnesses, a police spokeswoman said.

Firefighters were able to bring the two men to safety through an apartment window, said Larry Merritt, a Fire Department spokesman. Buildings in the complex are about 15 stories high and have apartments with balconies.

The two men were treated at the scene for minor cuts and bruises, the police spokeswoman said.
