The Easter Bunny made an appearance Saturday, wearing a yellow vest for the Western Springs Park District Easter Egg hunt at Laidlaw Park.
Children from ages 1-10 could hunt for candy filled eggs, have their picture taken with the Easter Bunny and have their faces painted.
“We have face painting and bubbles, a raffle for a boy and girl basket filled with fun prizes and a chance to meet the Easter Bunny,” said Barb Kartzmark, program coordinator for the park district.
Kartzmark said the sunny weather brought out a lot of families.
One of the first children to line up at the face painting station was 6-year-old Ingrid Bridges, who requested a rainbow.
“Rainbows are so colorful, I always like having them around,” she said. “I also want to find an Easter egg of every color during the hunt.”
Patiently waiting for the egg hunt to begin were 10-year-old friends William Bridges and Ryan Coglianese.
“My favorite candy is Twizzlers but I really like all kinds,” said William.

“I’m hoping to pick up a lot of eggs filled with candy,” said Ryan.
As the kids waiting for hunt, some visited the playground or danced in front of the bubble machine, such as 7-year-old Samadhi Chihak of Burr Ridge.
“I love the face painting the most but I brought my basket to collect some eggs too,” he said.
Aimee Tazic of Western Springs, held her children’s baskets while they ran around on the playground before the hunt.
“My kids are all excited. I have two 5-year-olds and an 8-year-old and I was surprised he still was excited about finding eggs,” she said. “My kids like to compete and see how many eggs they each get.”
Andrea Malevitis came with her 4-year-old daughter, Ellie.
“We like to do lots of Easter activities,” Malevitis said. “Later we might take our dog to Petco to get his picture taken with the Easter Bunny.”
Kartzmark encouraged children to fill out a raffle ticket for baskets provided by community sponsors and handed out donated coupons for free ice cream and other treats from local restaurants. Spring Orthodontics handed out children’s activity books and a raffle for a chance to win $1,000 in orthodontics treatment.
“I’m excited about the twirl wand and the coloring books and there is a lot of candy too,” said 7-year-old Sloane Groetsema, who won the girls themed basket along with her sisters.
