On Friday, Steppenwolf announced that co-founder Gary Sinise will make a stop at the theater to promote his new book, “Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service.” Sinise will be in conversation with fellow Steppenwolf co-founder Jeff Perry.
In the new memoir, the actor recalls his pathway to performance, from an impulsive audition for his high school’s production of “West Side Story” to Steppenwolf’s beginnings in a suburban Chicago church basement and beyond.
It was his turn as Lieutenant Dan in “Forrest Gump,” however, that made the most profound impact, leading Sinise to work on behalf of vets. He has entertained more than a half million troops around the world playing bass guitar with his Lt. Dan Band, raising funds on behalf of veterans, and eventually founding the Gary Sinise Foundation with a mission to serve veterans, first responders, their families and those in need. “Grateful American” follows Sinise as he chases this calling.
The event will take place in Steppenwolf’s Downstairs Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St, on Feb. 18. Single tickets go on sale Dec. 17, with a pre-sale special for members beginning Dec.14 at 11 a.m.
