
Longtime Clarendon Hills resident Bahir Mansur ran his first marathon in 1985 and has missed only one Chicago Marathon since 1988. At age 69, he went to Philadelphia for a Nov. 18 father-son marathon.
Q: How did you get involved in running marathons?

A: I first started running in 1984 and ran 1.7 miles the first time. I ran as fast as I could the whole time, and a doctor I was working with said I should run farther.
Q: Why do you continue to run marathons?
A: It’s fun. It reminds me I’m OK, healthy, and it doesn’t’ require equipment.
Q: How long have you been married, and how many kids do you have, other than your son?
A: I’ve been married for 33 years and have three children. My son, Paul is 30, and we have two daughters, Caroline, 31, and Sarah, 26.

A: 31 years. We moved here from Marquette Park in Chicago.
Q: What do you like best about Clarendon Hills?
A: It’s a very quiet neighborhood; it’s clean and safe.
Q: Where did you grow up?
A: Baghdad
Q: What is your profession?
A: I’m a family medicine physician.
Q: When you were a young boy, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: I wanted to be a physician, like my father.
Q: Have you thought about retiring?
A: I don’t really think about that. I would say I’ll keep on working for at least five years.

A: Gardening
