One person who bought a Mega Millions ticket at a store in Oak Forest for Friday’s jackpot is now $1 million richer.
Prajapati Rohit, a store clerk at Stop N Go Liquor at 5214 159th St., said there were long lines for lottery sales Friday, but it’s unclear when the winning ticket was sold.
He said about $2,500 in Mega Millions tickets were sold at the store on Friday. The identity of the winner remained unknown Saturday afternoon.
Rohit said smaller winning payouts of $5,000 and $10,000 had been sold at the store previously, but this was the first time a $1 million winning payout was sold there.
“I’m just a day late,” said customer Justin Larcher, of Homewood, who visited the store on Saturday.
He said he had bought $30 worth of Mega Millions tickets on Friday.
Customer Daryl Gage said he saw the long lottery lines at the store and now regrets not buying a ticket.
“That is crazy,” he said after learning about the winning. “I wish I would’ve got in line. I could’ve won it.”
The retailer also will received $10,000 for selling the winning ticket. Rohit said the owner has not mentioned, yet, what he’ll do with the money.
Another $1 million winning ticket was sold at a BP gas station in Chicago.
Illinois Lottery officials are urging the winners to sign the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place until they can visit one of their five prize centers in the state.
