15-year-old drives parents’ car into side of Chinese restaurant in Elgin

A 15-year-old driver is facing citations after driving his parent’s car into Gee N Jays Ice Cream/China Express in Elgin Wednesday night.

Elgin police and fire were called about 7:10 p.m. to the 925 Dundee Ave. restaurant on a report of a vehicle crashing into the building’s north side.

The restaurant sits at the intersection where Route 25 and Dundee Avenue merge, with traffic diverting southbound onto Route 25/Liberty Street.

Damage was estimated at about $25,000 by the Elgin Fire Department. No injuries were reported.
