Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 is looking for someone to fill the remaining term, about six months, for board member Leslie Gray, who is moving out of the district.
Gray was elected in 2015 and was serving as the board’s vice president. She also chaired the District 181 Academic Success Committee and was a board liaison for policy. Her term expires in the spring of 2019.
Applications from district residents to fill the vacant board seat will be accepted through 4 p.m. Aug. 31 and can be found on the district website, www.d181.org.
Paper applications may be picked up at the District 181 office, 115 W. 55th St., Clarendon Hills.
Board President Jennifer Burns said her preference in a replacement for Gray would be someone interested in running for election in 2019.
“I prefer someone who has a long-term interest in serving and sees this as a great opportunity to validate that this is an interest for them,” she said.
Gray said she had mixed feelings about her resignation, especially with a new superintendent, Hector Garcia, starting.
“As my younger son often says in situations like these, I am ‘happy sad,’” Gray said.
Burns praised Gray for her work.

“It is hard to find people who work hard and work smart, let alone do it as a volunteer for the good of the community,” she said. “Leslie has been critical to positioning District 181 for long-term success and she will be missed.”
