On Tuesday, Steep Theatre announced that company member Cindy Marker will replace Kendra Thulin as the titular character in its acclaimed production of “Linda.” Thulin’s last performance will be August 12, with Marker taking over on August 16.
Steep Theatre relayed that health complications will prevent Thulin from continuing.
“She had hip replacement surgery on both hips earlier in the year — kind of miraculous that she made it back to do the show,” the company said.
“She recently learned that further work would be needed to complete the procedure. As you can imagine, Kendra is incredibly disappointed to leave the production and we’ll all certainly miss her. We feel very fortunate to have Cindy available and know the show will be just as powerful with her in the lead role.”
Thulin’s will certainly be big shoes to fill. In his review of the show, Tribune critic Chris Jones praised her performance specifically.
“By the end, ‘Linda,’ a tour de force for Kulin but also replete with fine work by the likes of (especially) Moore, Huston and Therrien,” he writes, “reaches sufficiently tragic proportions that any viewer with a developed sense of empathy will want to adjust how they behave.”
“Linda” plays through August 18 at Steep Theatre, 1115 W. Berwyn Ave.
